Revitalizing Ancestral Practices: The Ohlone Tule Boat Project

In 2018, the Costanoan Rumsen Carmel Tribe organized the Ohlone Youth Summit to reconnect tribal youth to their culture and ancestral lands. At Coyote Hills Regional Park, the youth gathered tule, which they used to build and sail a boat. This event will feature a short documentary about this project, Ohlone Youth Summit: Tule Boat Project. Then, following the film screening, Carla Marie Munoz, Desire Munoz, Isaac Bojorquez, and Deja Gould will discuss their experiences revitalizing this practice and the importance of reconnecting the Ohlone youth to their lands.
