WACD’s Elena Phipps sets record with Fowler Museum’s Lunch & Learn

This January, independent textile scholar and curator Elena Phipps recently delivered a virtual lecture for the Fowler Museum Lunch & Learn series, entitled The Peruvian Four-Selvaged Cloth. The talk was inspired by the 2013 exhibition of the same name—The Peruvian Four-Selvaged Cloth: Ancient Threads/New Directions, curated by Phipps for the Fowler Museum. She authored the accompanying publication available at University of Washington Press.

Phipps highlights examples from the Fowler’s collection of pre-Columbian textiles, and explores Peruvian weavers’ high level of artistic achievement in color, technique, and design.

The talk was attended by a record 500 guests from 17 countries. The 30-minute lecture is posted online here.
