Fowler Films presents J. Bouey's Chiron in Leo

Chiron in Leo

The Fowler and UCLA World Arts and Cultures/Dance are pleased to co-present a screening of Chiron in Leo (24 min.), a short film by dance artist and astrologer J. Bouey. It follows Chiron, a dancer whose bout with depression and anxiety summons them back to their childhood wounds and prompts them to remember a lesson in survival. Chiron in Leo is inspired by the Greek myth and astrological significance of Chiron, the wounded healer. After the film, J. Bouey will hold a conversation and Q&A with the audience. The film contains nudity.

Bouey is the founder of The Dance Union Podcast, initiator of the NYC Dancers COVID-19 Relief Fund, and The Dance Union Town Hall For Collective Action, which supports the dance community through world-changing events. Bouey is a 2021-22 Jerome Fellow and a 2022-23 Movement Research Artist in Residence. Bouey was a Gibney 2021 Spotlight Artist, Artist-In-Residence at Center for Performance Research, and 2021 Bogliasco Fellow. They have danced with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Germaul Barnes’ Viewsic Dance, Maria Bauman’s MB Dance, Dante Brown, Christal Brown’s INspirit Dance; and apprenticed with Emerge 125 (formerly Elisa Monte Dance) under the artistic direction of Tiffany Rea-Fisher.
