About

Ghislain Grellier's work is the result of a fusion of his knowledge in contemporary dance and ballet. With his company, Le Rapt Invisible, he decided to work on a dance that is visually esthetic. Interested in images, Ghislain creates works that underline the relation between dance and video. Each of his work is conceived to be performed and filmed. Through his work, Ghislain hopes to open the dance art to a larger audience.

Ghislain started dancing at the age of ten at the Conservatoire de Danse et de Musique de Nice. Five years later, in 2008, Ghislain was admitted to the reknowned Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (Cnsmdp). He graduated in 2012 receiving the Conservatoire diploma and the equivalence of a Bachelor degree in Contemporary Dance. In 2013, Ghislain danced with the Cnsmdp Junior Ballet and toured in France, England, and Eastern Europe. During his studies in Paris, Ghislain has had the opportunity to perform pieces from famous dance choreographers such as Hofesh Shechter, Edmond Russo – Shlomi Tuiser, Itzik Galili, Martha Graham, and Trisha Brown.

While pursuing his degree, Ghislain created a dance company called Le Rapt Invisible, with the opera singer Romain Dayez in 2012. For the past five years, his company has produced five large production shows and has worked with over 40 different types of artists.

Since graduating from the Paris Superior Conservatoire, Ghislain has had the opportunity to perform for very different projects. Ghislain has had the opportunity to dance for different opera houses such as the Opera of Paris, La Monnaie de Munt of Brussels, and the Wexford Opera Festival in Ireland with the Paris’ Opera Comique. Recently, Ghislain was selected to be part of the cast of the Comédie Française in the well-known piece Les Damnés. The piece was part of the Festival of Avignon 2016 and included famous French actor such as Guillaume Gallienne, and Denis Podalydes. Ghislain has also performed as a dancer and actor in different music videos, commercial and events for famous names such as Channel, Karl Lagerfeld, Dassault, and the French television channel Arte.

Ghislain is constantly expanding his dance movement through performing, choreographing and teaching. In 2015, Ghislain obtained his teaching credential at the Centre National de la Danse de Paris and started teaching dance classes in Paris and other parts of France. In April 2017, Ghislain received a full scholarship to attend the University of California, Los Angeles to expand his knowledge in dance choreography in the World Art and Culture Dance department at UCLA.

Since he arrived in California, Ghislain has been offered to create a dance solo for the event David Quilt organized by the UCLA School of Music and the Milken Family Foundation. Ghislain is currently choreographing two major dance projects, one in France and one in Los Angeles.
